Reinterprets the classic bookshelf
When choosing the size of a grow tent for home plant cultivation, it’s important to consider three main factors: the number of plants, the available space, and the lighting power.
Determine the number and height of your plants.
For 1–2 plants, a compact grow tent measuring 60×60×140 cm is enough. If you plan to grow 3–4 medium-sized plants, an 80×80×160 cm tent will work well. For larger plants or a higher number of them, choose 100×100×200 cm or bigger.
Compare with the available indoor space.
Measure the area where you plan to place the grow tent (closet, balcony, room corner). Leave extra height for ventilation and hanging lights.
Match the lighting to the tent’s area.
The light should cover the entire growing zone. For example, 150W LED lights are suitable for 60×60 cm, while a 100×100 cm tent requires at least 300W.
To properly choose a fan and carbon filter for your grow tent, it’s important to consider the tent’s size, lighting power, and heat level inside. These factors determine ventilation efficiency, odor control, and maintaining a stable climate for plants.
Calculate the grow tent volume
Multiply the tent’s width × depth × height (in meters) to get the total volume.
For example, a 1×1×2 m tent = 2 m³.
Select the right fan airflow capacity
Your fan should exchange the air 30–60 times per hour.
For a 2 m³ tent, you’ll need a fan rated 120–250 m³/h.
If you’re using powerful lights (HPS, high-wattage LED), add 20–30% extra capacity to handle the heat.
Choose a matching carbon filter
The filter should match the fan’s airflow and have a 10–20% buffer.
If the fan is rated at 250 m³/h, pick a carbon filter for at least 300 m³/h.
Check the flange diameter (commonly 100, 125, or 150 mm) — it must match the fan and ducting size.
Consider noise levels
For indoor growing, choose fans with soundproof housings or add silencers to reduce noise — especially important if the system runs at night.
Choosing the right grow lights for vegetative growth and flowering depends on your growing goals, budget, and indoor conditions. The three most common types are LED, HPS (High Pressure Sodium), and CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp).
LED (Light-Emitting Diodes) — modern and efficient
- Pros: low energy consumption, minimal heat output, full light spectrum (you can choose models designed for vegetative growth, flowering, or universal full spectrum), long lifespan.
- Cons: higher upfront cost but pays off with energy savings and durability.
- Recommendation: ideal for apartments and small grow tents where temperature control is important.
HPS (High Pressure Sodium) — classic choice for flowering
- Pros: very high light intensity, strong red spectrum perfect for the flowering stage.
- Cons: generates significant heat, requires proper ventilation and reflectors, higher energy consumption.
- Recommendation: great for large grow tents and experienced growers who can manage heat and airflow.
CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) — budget-friendly option
- Pros: affordable, easy to install, low heat emission.
- Cons: lower light intensity, suitable for a few small plants and early growth stages only.
- Recommendation: best for seedlings, clones, and starting plants but not efficient for full flowering cycles.
